Character Creation / Rewrite

This form is intended for new character submissions (by current players) or updates to an existing character.

REWRITES

Before you attend your third event, we encourage you to review the rulebooks and/or have discussions with our staff and community members to see if there are any aspects of your character that you would like to change. You have the option of completely rewriting your character from scratch, making some minor adjustments to your character, or creating a brand new character. This rewrite applies to every player and can be used before their third game.

Character Retirement

As much as we love our characters, sometimes we know that their story has reached its natural (or unnatural?) end. If your character dies or you want to voluntarily retire a character, all in-character items must be turned in to a staff member prior to retirement. You can discuss with staff the type of character retirement you’d prefer so that you can close your story in a fitting way. Once staff reviews these items, you will be awarded 100% of your existing experience points for the new character. Failure to turn in all items may result in some experience points not being awarded to your new character.

Upon receiving experience points from character retirement, 50% of your experience will be available at new character creation. The other 50% of your retirement experience points will be awarded after 6 months of playing your new character. Please note that when creating a character with experience points carried over from a retired character, you do not receive the 50 starting creation points. However, you can purchase skills and Professions as long as you have the experience to do so.

Using character death or retirement as a means to create joke characters, disrupt play, target other player characters in-game, or manipulate the game system is directly against the intent of this process and may result in disciplinary action.

Here are some things to note about character retirement:

  1. A retirement story must be discussed with staff members in between events and must be a mutually created story that not only brings a sense of completion to the character but also provides a character retirement that will engage and drive story for other players.

  2. At the end of a retirement story, all currency, items, resources, and in-character materials that the character has must be turned over to a staff member. Both the staff member and the player should record what items are turned in.

  3. Character retirement is an emotional, but rewarding process! Ending a story is often hard, especially when the retiring character is a longstanding member of the community. Therefore, we ask that players who are retiring a character be extra mindful about checking in—with themselves, the staff, and other players throughout the event to make sure that everyone is having a great time and giving the story’s appropriate respect in its closing.

  4. The DR:MI staff and the player must follow and agree on all outlined aspects of a retirement story arc (check-in, turning in of all goods, creation of a story that is beneficial to the player and to the community, and clear communication and direction in the downtime) at the start, middle, and end of the retirement arc.
