Welcome Back to the Blog!

March was amazing! Ready for April?

Welcome back to the blog, everyone!

Going forward, you can expect an update to this space roughly once a week, on Fridays, for both OOG and IG information posted on the Discord and across social media over the past week, just in case you’re one of those people trying to cut your time on these platforms (or if this just looks slightly more legitimate when pulled up on your work computer. Don’t worry; we won’t tell.).

In general, OOG news and reminders will go out on Wednesdays, while IG news and teasers will go out on Fridays.

OOG News

We loved having you guys at the March game! As a reminder, we do have a feedback form, and we’d love to hear what you loved/hated about our last game! All feedback, both positive and negative, help our game to grow. We read every piece of feedback and discuss it with our team. Thanks in advance for all that you do to help us make the game better!

Our April game is fast approaching! We’re back at the OEC on April 10th - 11th, and we can’t wait to see you all there! Tickets for Behind Closed Doors will go on sale next Wednesday, April 1st, so keep an eye out!

IG News

Anyone know what’s going on with this invoice? It looks…like a lot of numbers.

Have fun, everyone! We’ll see you at game in just a few short weeks!

DR:MI November 2025 Event Content Warnings

Hello Drifters, Pointefolk, Mercynaries, and Travelers! Once again we bring you a content warning post, so you’re out-of- game prepared for all of the mayhem and monsters we’re throwing your way during this November trade!

Hello Drifters, Pointefolk, Mercynaries, and Travelers! Once again we bring you a content warning post, so you’re out-of-game prepared for all of mayhem and monsters the we’re throwing your way during this November trade!

Dystopia Rising is by nature a horror and survival larp, and while we DO love to shock and scare your characters, we’d never want to do any actual mental or physical harm to our playerbase. Please remember it’s always okay to opt out of a scene and walk away, with no penalties or repercussions for you or your character. Player safety is first and foremost. If you have any questions or concerns after reading this blog, let us know!

Below are the elements to expect from this event.

  • Darkness/The Unknown - Mercy Pointe uses lanterns to keep the darkness at bay-- and what lurks within it. Themes of darkness and what is just out of sight will be featured in some mods.

  • Violence/Gore - Mods may include simulated violence and gore. These may involve blood, intense combat, or body horror. Please use the eyes down mechanic if you are uncomfortable at any time.

  • Critter Death - This event has a lot of critter threats, meaning a lot of potential deaths of animals portrayed by NPCs. No actual animals will ever be harmed at DR:MI.

  • Critter Attacks - Critters are attacking strangely, which means there’s a higher chance of you being attacked by them.

  • Loss of Control - Potential psionic effects may cause characters to act beyond their own will.

  • Torture - A mod will simulate torture on an NPC and may be uncomfortable for some present.

Please remember you can always OPT OUT of a scene using ‘Eyes Down’ - placing your hand over your brow and looking down to signal you are leaving a scene for any reason, no questions asked. You may also ask a guide on scene to help find you somewhere to decompress.

We encourage all players to use the OK Check-In system, even when not in an intense scene.

As a reminder, the OK Check-In system works as below:

  • Player 1 holds the OK hand gesture up to Player 2 (reminder- can be a PC or NPC).

  • Player 2 has three options:

    • Thumbs up - “All is good, I’m having a great time.” Continue with the scene.

    • Hand flat and moving in an “Eh?” gesture - “I’m not sure.” Deescalate the scene, offer to find somewhere to decompress/find a guide or staff to help.

    • Thumbs down - “I’m not okay/I’m uncomfortable with this scene” - Deescalate the scene, offer to find somewhere to decompress/find a guide or staff to help.

  • Based on Player 2’s response, Player 1 should do the following

    • Thumbs up - Continue with the scene.

    • Hand flat and moving in an “Eh?” gesture - Deescalate the scene, offer to find somewhere to decompress/find a guide or staff to help.

    • Thumbs down - Deescalate the scene, offer to find somewhere to decompress/find a guide or staff to help.

  • Players are not expected to be therapists. We just ask that you show kindness to your fellow player and assist them in finding somewhere safe at the bare minimum. If there is an issue you need assistance with, Kendall is our Community Management Director

We will do our best to give content warnings before the modules these warnings pertain to. Please let us know at drmimercypointe@gmail.com if you have any questions and concerns.

With all that said, we can’t wait to bring you safe frights and terror this event! See you soon!

Get ready for a trade full of mayhem and mayoral runs!! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Of Sound Mind,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

Creepy critters

Who doesn’t love animals? The November Premiere Event will have a slew of different critter-related mods. While many may hope for the cute and cuddly variety of animals, these critters will have a bit more bite to them. On top of that, our critters are being just a tad bit strange. You can find out what that means in game, whether you want to or not!

The Lake Effect

When the Grand Tides area was struck with (and was partially demolished) by the Zed horde labeled “The Lake Effect” back in August, many believed and hoped that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, due to currently unknown reasons, another horde is beginning to form. It is up to the trade-goers to discover the source of this new Lake Effect and put a stop to it.

Mayoral Race

Mercy Pointe needs a new mayor! The election, previously planned for this trade, was pushed back due to the possibility of current mayor Elias Tharen being potentially mentally-altered. Thus, this trade will have Faction Leads showing up into town with the opportunity for the players to convince these NPCs to run for mayor! Who will you back?

New Season

With the story of the Rewritten being wrapped up, now enters the start of a new season! Players attending this Premiere will get hints at what’s to come for the next season. No spoilers, but a lot of what’s to come will be revealed if you know where to look.

Bundle up, because we’re sending you into winter break with a bang!

Get ready for a trade full of allies and enemies!! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Last Word,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

Get ready for a trade full of allies and enemies! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Last Word,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

The Race

The Rewritten have begun a smear campaign across the Grand Tides area, placing Mercy Pointe and its citizens at the center of everything bad that has happened recently. If the players hope to win against the Rewritten, they will need any help that they can get.

The War Effort

With the public fall of a faction comes full out war. As seen with their assassination attempts last month, the gloves are off with the Rewritten. Various settlements have banded together against this insidious group, yet the Rewritten will stop at nothing to see these towns destroyed. Players will have a direct hand in defending Mercy Pointe and the surrounding areas from this growing threat. Along with that, the various faces of Mercy Pointe’s factions may have news about the war front outside of the trade settlement.

The Compound

To finally end the havoc the Rewritten has wrought on the Grand Tides area, the base of operations must be taken down. Players will have an opportunity to travel out of the Mercy Pointe area and be ushered into the Rewritten’s main compound, where the villainous faction will make their final stand. The Compound offers players a type of haunted-house scenario where players get to see the depths of the Rewritten’s plans, their resources, and the leader of the Rewritten themself, Thomas Fletch A.K.A Mr. Fitzgerald.

A Building Threat

You know them, you love them-- the Glowshrooms continue to exist and cause problems. This event will see the continuation of this storyline and a building threat for the future. While we will not give away what is to come, just know that this thread will be followed even stronger this event.

Take up your arms, join your allies, and hope that you get the last word.

September Event Breakdown

Get ready for a trade full of crime and corruption! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Hostile Takeover,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

Get ready for a trade full of hard choices and your favorite-- zombies! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Moral Compass,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

Allies and enemies

The Rewritten have begun a smear campaign across the Grand Tides area, placing Mercy Pointe and its citizens at the center of everything bad that has happened recently. If the players hope to win against the Rewritten, they will need any help that they can get.

Representatives of these different settlements will be around, both as familiar faces and new representatives, to discuss where their settlement stands in relation to Mercy Pointe. Some may need proof of the Rewritten’s involvement within the Chronicle, while some may believe the Drifters and Pointefolk, but be too scared to take up arms. It’s up to the players to bring these towns to their side.

The Chronicle: Special Edition

Secrets don’t make friends, but they do make good headlines. Keep an eye out for a very special edition of The Chronicle at this event, which NPCs will have to sell to those looking for juicy gossip. And remember-- there are no retractions.

Company B

With the fall of Fort Mayfield and the Rewritten sowing chaos around the Grand Tides area, a new faction will enter the playing field-- and they’re coming out swinging! Company B is here to support Mercy Pointe after the Horde, but their support comes with objections from a current faction. Players will have another big choice to make by the end of the event, one that will affect the faction politics of Mercy Pointe and its surrounding areas!

Bounty Board

With scattered criminals come bounties. A new “bounty board” will be created and public to all players to access and interact with. Criminals will be findable a few different ways: some will be able to be “tracked and lured” into town through player interaction, some will be hiding in plain sight on mods, and some may just wander into town. It is up to the players to be diligent and work together to complete these bounties. These will be dangerous and powerful people, preparation is recommended. Don’t worry if you don’t complete them all, these bounties will stay around past September!

So, will you fight for the truth?

chronicle fights back

special edition this trade

Dear readers, please let us apologize for the confusion caused at the hands of our rogue ex-employees, who have taken it upon themselves to destroy the integrity of this fine paper. We at the Chronicle report with the truth in mind, not spreading false accusations with little proof. We take these accusations very seriously, but have so far found no sustenance to back them up. To rebuild trust with our readers, and expose bad actors, we will be providing a FREE special edition that is sure to shed some light on the going-ons of Mercy Pointe and our accusers.

Ex-employee Magaret Sawyer (seen in a rage)

Ex-employee Zebidiah Honesty (looting a dead hospital worker)

Orchard Conquers Battlement day

It is with heavy hearts that we report the destruction of Fort Mayfield, home of Hope’s Hand and the Fort Mayfield prison. Our investigators have found no sight of Marigold Flowers, leader of Hope’s Hand, but the search for her is ongoing. How could this have happened, you ask?

Mercy Pointe “citizens” discussing the horde

Investigations lead to scoundrels in Mercy Pointe pulling strings to ensure the destruction of our local protectors. It is said the choice between King’s Crown and Fort Mayfield was left to chance-- but we ask, who flipped the hypothetical coin? How do we know it wasn’t weighted towards one side? We just don’t think this was truly an act of fate...

rewritten Revealed?

It is to our great distress that our Lead Reporter Thomas Fletch has been accused of being Mr. Fitzgerald, with little proof to show! Interpreted messages and shocking secrets were mentioned in the bootleg copy of The Chronicle, yet we see no physical proof printed on the page. We ask you dear readers, who would seek to benefit off of sowing such chaos and taking over the one trustworthy source of information in Mercy Pointe? The Rewritten themselves!

Yes, that’s right dear readers. We believe these false reporters are no other than the dastardly villains that have left a wake of destruction throughout the Grand Tides region. But what proof do we have? Just look at the last town Ms. Sawyer and Mr. Honesty were from. It is now a pit of ruin that no one returns to. Just like every other town the Rewritten has touched.

While we’ve already collected damning information-- see our upcoming Special Edition-- we will be launching deep investigations into these individuals as well to uncover their craven plots before it’s too late. Please report anything suspicious to members of The Chronicle with a press badge.

Notices

The Chronicle Institutes “No Retractions” Policy

We once again apologize for the confusion, but The Chronicle is still issuing it’s No Retractions policy while interviewing those in town. We would encourage interviewees to think before they speak-- though we do still want to hear you speak!

Chronicle Reporters will be representing themselves with Press Badges, which we urge interviewees to ask for when being interviewed. If any “reporter” does not have an official Chronicle badge, they are not affiliated with the Chronicle!

Rewritten Clues

Throughout the event, players will get the opportunity to learn secrets both about the Rewritten and hints of when to expect mods where they appear. This can happen in three ways:

  • Module Participation: Participating in select mods will potentially give players information and hints at following encounters within the event.

  • Supply Caches: A couple of lockboxes may be found throughout the property that can contain information on the Rewritten and/or upcoming mods.

    • NOTE: If you like puzzles, ciphers, and/or riddles, this is the thing for you.

  • Intercepted Letters: Some mail may come through town via the mailbox, NPCs, or may be scattered on the property. While some may mean nothing, others may be clues as to what is to come.

Local World Map & Worldbuilding

For players who attended the July event, you may have checked out the War Map that was an important part of Battlement day. It featured a collection of settlement names scattered across a large map. Those settlements weren’t just for show, and are real areas within the county-wide lore of Dystopia Rising: Michigan!

This event will have players learning more about the settlements all around Mercy Pointe and the “Grand Tides” area. On top of this, players have the opportunity to learn more about the factions within Mercy Pointe. Just ask Face NPCs about their organization, and you may get some new information!

The Horde

Who’s a comin? Zeds a comin. The Grand Tides area is being struck by a seemingly endless horde. Expect a high amount of zed threats this game, culminating in a large horde pushing through Mercy Pointe!

Here’s the twist: you get to choose how strong it is.

The Choice

Players will have one major choice coming into this game that can affect not only the event’s storyline, but the season going forward. The choice?

What town will the horde hit?

Players will have to decide where the Horde moves in the Grand Tides area and which settlement will be in its path-- and will have to face the consequences afterwards.

Who will you choose?

The Chronicle’s Distinguished Logo

The Inside Scoop

You wanted info, we’ve got it!

Last trade, citizens asked for a behind the scenes feature on your favorite news outlet-- The Chronicle! We’re not immune to flattery, so we’ve brought you the amazing history of Mercy Pointe’s premiere news source!

The Chronicle began when the little town of Rapid Maples fell to power hungry Final Knights. The two founding brothers-- Garrett Fletch as the Lead Reporter and Thomas Fletch as the Head Cartographer-- were motivated by the falling of local settlements to capture their stories, histories, and insights for the future. (Editors note: The Chronicle does NOT claim connection to any previous publications in the Grand Tides Area).

The Chronicle continued to focus on storing, preserving, and researching events important Post-Fall events, believing the history of the present wasteland deserves as much attention as its predecessor. The Chronicle has an open door policy for reporters of all walks of life-- however you must complete a full interview before publishing. Their current departments are as follows: Cartography; Archival & Research; Reporting; Distribution, Marketing, & Design.

Lately, Garret has taken a step back from the limelight and allowed Thomas to take charge of the Chronicle as Lead Reporter. For any comments, questions, and/or concerns, please reach out to Thomas Fletch!

Orchard Conquers Battlement day

After a day long battle between Hope’s Hand and The Orchard for boons and curses, it was finally time for Capture the Flag. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned when the surprise Green Team turned out to be taken over by the mysterious organization known as The Rewritten.

Hope’s Hand’s Captured Flag

Assassins tormented both teams, who were separated on opposite sides of town. Unfortunately, two lives were lost that night to the dastardly villains-- reports say that of local Brave Scouts Alice and Fred. Fortunately, Alice redeemed herself when she captured Hope’s Hands’ flags Sunday morning with Scoutmaster Beard and won the game for the Orchard! Congrats!

We attempted to reach Orchard leader Ray for comment, but couldn’t seem to find him.

Firestarters Find no kindling

Enraged “hospital workers” descended on Mercy Pointe, stating that they were attacked the previous trade. Trade-goers quickly dispatched them after finding a lighter in their pocket. Witnesses claim that the workers were Firestarters in disguise. The quick thinking of these townsfolk may have smothered any further flames that weekend.

The Chronicle Institutes “No Retractions” Policy

Due to accusations of misquoting, The Chronicle is issuing a No Retractions policy while interviewing those in town. We would encourage interviewees to think before they speak-- though we do still want to hear you speak!

Chronicle Reporters will be representing themselves with Press Badges per request of faction member Mags. Please ask to see a reporter’s badge if you think you’re being tricked. This is the Wasteland after all!

rumors

It’s your favorite-- local rumors! We’re here to spill the most piping hot tea we can find, from incoming threats to crazed town leaders. Read on for your daily dose of gossip!

Horde Incoming

Hope’s Hand reports a horde of zed amassing at the southern border of the Great Tides area. Marigold Flowers advises townsfolk to barricade their homes, and asks for any able fighters and medics to join them in protecting Mercy Pointe. Will you answer her call?

Elias Snaps!

Chronicle reporters came into town last trade following rumors of Elias Tharen, the mayor of Mercy Pointe, attacking citizens. While some trade-goers defended Elias, our reporters think they’re hiding the dangerous truth-- Elias has finally snapped. We’ll report back after investigations continue this upcoming trade.

Jelly Ick

Odd creatures crawled from Mercy Pointe’s shore on Saturday of last trade, causing confusion and chaos. Reports say they were jellyfish like creatures with slow moving stalks that allowed them to navigate the beach. Disturbingly, the creatures had multiple probiscis peeking out from their bells. We fear what could happen should one of these ominous Jelly Icks capture their prey!

Hello Drifters, Pointefolk, and Travelers! Once again we bring you a content warning post, so you’re out-of- game prepared for all of the intrigue and horror we’re throwing your way during this July trade!

Hello Drifters, Pointefolk, and Travelers! Once again we bring you a content warning post, so you’re out-of- game prepared for all of the games and gore we’re throwing your way during this July trade!

  • Character Vs. Character Elements - This month involves games that pit players’ teams against each other. As such, there will be a level of CVC involved. This does not necessarily mean violent CVC, but could lead to it. Please communicate with each other and take actions in good faith, we’re all here to spend a weekend of play pretend in the woods! We suggest reading page 76 of the DR Live Players Guide for more information on CVC.

  • Darkness/The Unknown - Mercy Pointe uses lanterns to keep the darkness at bay-- and what lurks within it. Themes of what is lurking just out of sight will be prevalent this month.

  • Claustrophobia/Cramped Quarters - There will be a mod that will include crawling and squeezing through tight spaces. This will be advertised beforehand, and accommodations can be made if need be.

  • Violence/Gore - Mods may include simulated violence and gore. These may involve blood and/or body horror that may disturb players. Please use the eyes down mechanic if you are uncomfortable at any time.

  • Large Scale Destruction - There will be “out-of-town” mods where players visit the ruins of destroyed towns in the surrounding area. These will deal with catastrophic events and death.

  • Water Splash Mod - There will be a water splash mod at 3:30 pm, which will be heavily advertised as such. YOU MAY GET WET!

  • Self Sacrifice - There will be one mod that involves potential self sacrifice in an act of heroism of an NPC. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, please exit the scene using the eyes down mechanic.

  • Fake Fire - There is an arsonist faction in town, as well as a mod having to do with putting out fire. There will be no real flames at this mod, but please use the eyes down mechanic if you are uncomfortable at any time.

Get ready for a trade full of tactics and terror! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Battlegrounds,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

Battlement Day

Headed by Hope’s Hand, Battlement Day is a yearly tradition of military tactics, combat medics, and military logistics being practiced and trained within a settlement. The origins for this holiday come from Marigold Flowers deciding to create something joyous for the public that would in turn pull these strains into military training without their awareness. This holiday has members from all walks of life coming into settlements to train in combat maneuvers, skills, and running medic simulations. At the end, once the sun is about to start setting, a large capture the flag event is held.

The Teams

This year, The Orchard has challenged Hope’s Hand to see which faction is truly better when it comes to military prowess. PCs will be split into two even teams, one team supporting The Orchard and the other supporting Hope's Hand. This will be chosen at random, with PCs first split into tiers based on their XP levels, and then randomized to each team. This way, character builds won’t skew numbers to favor a faction. and each side has a fair chance to win the competition. You will know what team you’re on at check-in when you receive a bandana with the coordinating color. Blue is for Hope’s Hand and yellow is for The Orchard!

The Games

A series of games will be held by the various factions of Mercy Pointe. These will range from obstacle courses to water balloon fights, Jones Runs to games of tag. Playing these games will award the winning team with rewards and an Advancement upon the "War Map." Speaking of the “War Map”…

The war map

The War Map is where a team can use their hard-earned Advancements to move units across a specially designed game board. Each team will have 8 units at opposing starting points. The objective? Advance your Soldiers across the board to hold Advancement spaces, which will give your team extra Boons or give the other team extra Banes for the final game of Capture the Flag-- in which the winner takes all! More than one team can be on the same space before the final game of CTF, but only the team with the most Soldiers on the space gets those benefits. So choose your moves carefully!

Capture the flag

Capture the Flag is the final game within the Battlement Day festivities. The two teams will take their prospective flags to the two different sides of the town. The goal? Get the other side's flag down to the dock. As stated previously, based upon what spaces your team claimed upon the War Map, your team will have certain Boons or the opposing team will have a certain Bane. Whichever team wins Capture the Flag is the winner of Battlement Day!

what about the rewritten?

Last event, it was revealed that the saboteurs of the town were a group named the Rewritten. No one knows anything more though, like why they’re attacking the town. And can some war games really be more important than investigating further? Worry not-- you don’t think they’d miss out on some fun and games, do you?

traveling mysteries

There will be a collection of mods that deal with the county area surrounding Mercy Pointe. PCs will get the chance to learn more about the nearby towns and can uncover recent history-- maybe even something about the fallen town of Driftwood Dover.

So, are you ready for war? Grab your ticket for our July event!

Fallow Hopes hold the line

abandon all hope

local fallows make last stand

After a grueling day of preparations and politicking, Mercy Pointe faced one of their greatest threats yet-- an onslaught of Raiders. But as town was attacked, the militaristic faction of Hope’s Hand was nowhere to be seen! Rumors from locals state that the faction has been inciting violence in order to solve violence in town (see Secrets Revealed, pg. 1). Could this be why the faction decided to withhold help? When asked by reporters, Marigold Flowers stated she did not appreciate the insinuation, and multiple follies including this rumor may have contributed to their lack of presence.

Chaos ensued as trade-goers fought against the mass of Raiders, with reports of the shield line being backed into the med bay. Luckily, an escape tunnel was created and most were able to escape the carnage. Two Cult of the Fallow Hope members held the line to the end though, and paid the price for their heroism. One other death was reported, a local Iron slain in battle. We hope to get comments from these brave soldiers this coming trade.

Continued on Page 4

Job board constructed

The local factions of Mercy Pointe will be utilizing a job board to offer potential work for the citizens and travelers of Mercy Pointe. Rewards will be given to those who complete tasks on the board, ranging from information and resource gathering to self care. Check out the board yourself in Public Works for more information on these opportunities!

Trade-goers surround the alleged Firestarters

Naval Training

The Wayfaring Strangers invite all to their Accuracy and Dodging seminar, taking place Saturday of trade at 3 pm. Bring a towel, as they’ll be using water bombs for some lighthearted practice! Those not participating are welcome to hang out beach side or swim, promising an enjoyable and relaxing mid-afternoon break.

secrets revealed

In exchange for our generous help against the Raider threat, we at the Chronicle learned much about our illustrious local factions from investigative locals! Continue reading for the hottest gossip!

Gearworkers Work Less

The Gearworkers have been revealed to vulture off Raider groups that attack settlements. Sources say they wait until the Raiders have destroyed the area before springing on the remaining scrap that the damaged and dead provide. How weaselly!

Not-So-Natural Orchard

The Orchard was discovered in a hidden lab, where they are attempting to make hardier, faster growing crops and domestic animals. Iffy, a Mercy Pointe local, attacked these scientists seemingly unprovoked. Wayfaring Strangers leader Jake Jimmy James struck back against him in defense-- turns out, the labs is WF sanctioned! Trade-goers were not given assistance from the Orchard later on.

Hope Hurts

Rumors say that Hope’s Hand are manufacturing problems in Mercy Pointe, so that they may swoop in and heroically solve them! Could the Raider attack at their training course be indictive of this? We’ll report back after their Battlement Day activities with any suspicious behavior.

  • Grief - There will be mods exploring grief and heavy subjects. If at any time you feel overwhelmed by these mods, please feel free to use the eyes down mechanic.

  • Cannibalism - Raiders and Zombies alike have various Cannibalism skills. While this is a common theme in DR, we want players to be aware it may occur.

  • Torture - There are a few mods where NPCs and PCs may be tortured by various threats. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, please talk to the Guide on hand or exit the scene using the eyes down mechanic.

  • Self Sacrifice - There will be one mod that involves self sacrifice of an NPC. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, please exit the scene using the eyes down mechanic.

June Event Breakdown

Get ready for a trade full of intrigue and bloodbaths! We’re here to break down what to expect for this June event, so any secrets revealed are simply part of the story, and you’re not left in the dark.

Get ready for a trade full of intrigue and bloodbaths! We’re here to break down what to expect for this June event, so any secrets revealed are simply part of the story, and you’re not left in the dark.

Whodunnit?

Last month someone was sabotaging Mercy Pointe with diseases and mayhem, all leading up to a dangerous bomb defusal that left the townsfolk asking “who did this?” Factions are pointing fingers at each other, and it’ll be up to you to suss out who’s really behind the madness.

We want you to get to know each faction. Each faction will have a secret that players can reveal through mods. These secrets may prove a group innocent of these crimes, but guilty of others. Work together to cross suspects off your list and find clues to who really is behind the town terror.

Raider Sightings

Raiders have become a problem over the last month. Some think it’s due to the sudden influx of Lineages living in Mercy Pointe, but others suspect last month’s villain leading them here. They have been attacking the outskirts of town, resulting in loss of resources and even death. The local factions have been too distracted with accusations to organize any defense. Expect Raiders to be a present threat this month, culminating in a final onslaught. Which brings us to…

A Fractured Community

Not only will you want to find out who is behind the chaos, but you’ll want to convince those factions who aren’t to work together and rally against the Raider threat! Each faction will have a condition to be reached by PCs that will get them to assist in the final battle, such as providing resources like brews or by mechanically lowering the ranks of all Raider threats. Some NPCs may even join the fight!

In the end, PCs can decide whether to fulfill the factions’ conditions, use political intrigue (aka blackmail) with the uncovered faction secrets, or simply raw dog the finale mod.

So, are you ready to puzzle the pieces together? Grab your ticket for our June event!

Raiders have been sighted near Mercy Pointe, and locals are nervous. Lately it’s felt like they’re meaner than ever. And if you’ve taken a peek at the Dystopia Rising Live Banners of Blood: Raider Mechanics book, you’d know they are! So, what do you need to know before facing down these dangerous adversaries? We’ve got you covered with a quick rundown on what to expect when running into a Raider, so that any surprises are just fun, in-game actions.

I’m new, what the heck is a Raider?

If you haven’t played Dystopia Rising before, or are new to the game, we can catch you up. Raiders are an evolution of humanity that’s adapted in the post-apocalyptic world, just like Strains. Unlike Strains though, they have “...adapted to the harsh realities of the post-apocalyptic world through mutation and a lifestyle of aggression and predation.” (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 7). Raiders prize strength in leadership, seeking dominance over others to secure power.

On a meta level, Raiders are a higher level threat that cannot just be barreled through. Rank 1 Raiders are scaled above Rank 2 Zed on the DR threat chart. They are harder to kill due to Raider Rage, have more crowd control effects, and should be treated as a dangerous threat. DR Live Raiders are stronger than 3.0 iterations, which is why we want to outline changes for new and old players alike!

What to Expect When You’re Expecting Raiders

DR Live Raiders have some common skills and features that you can expect to encounter while either NPCing or fighting a Raider. For a full list of skills Raiders may have, you can read pages 13-16 of Banners of Blood.

Universal Skills & Features

  • Raider Default Skills: Brawling, Melee Small, Melee Standard, Melee Two- Handed, Basic Shield, Florentine (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 15)

  • Raider Rage: Raider Rage is a non-Impact Skill that must be activated by calling “Raider Rage” when used. Upon activation, the Raider immediately heals all wounds, removes all Down Surges, restores all mangled limbs, and refreshes every skill except Raider Rage. For 30 seconds, the Raider becomes immune to all damage except that inflicted by the Imprint Shaker and is also protected from all negative mechanical effects such as blinding, stuns, mangles, nails, and knockout.

However, this immunity does not extend to skills that slow, knock back, or move (without stopping) the Raider. The ability can be used at any time—even while in Bleed Out or Stunned—and does not require waiting for these conditions to trigger. It is commonly employed when a Raider is outnumbered or taking significant damage. If a mechanic still prevents the user from regaining Body (for example, through a “No Healing” effect that is not a Down Surge), the Raider’s Body is set to 5 instead of being fully restored. (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 15)

  • Killing Blow Active: Raiders are a lethal threat, and are killing blow active 98% of the time. The only times Raiders are not killing blow active is if they have specific guidelines for taking captives for converting to Raider status or when a group of Raiders find a section of new players that have no means of escape. (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 5)

Common Skills

While not all Raiders use the following skills, you will probably hear some of these calls sooner or later.

  • Abduct: Allows the user to drag a non-willing target, similar to the Drag Handle skill. (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 13)

  • Agile Movement: With this skill, you may call “Agile Movement” and put up your Out of Character gesture. Once called you have 10 seconds to take up to 10 large steps completely out of character. This movement allows you to move across Zones of Mechanics that are unsafe, past active guards, but it does not allow you to engage in the environment (like to open doors or grab items) nor does anyone have to get out of your way. This skill may be chained back to back to continue moving. (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 13)

  • Break - Door (Modified): With this skill, an Raider can do a series of 5 loud melee strikes on a door. Loud should be focused on grunts and yells instead of actually hitting a door hard, and have a second between each strike. After 5 loud melee strikes on the door the Raider can call “Break Door” even on doors with Locks. (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 13)

  • Carver: Target character in Bleed Out or Immobilized. Engage in 20 seconds of Full Engagement Role Play of mutilating or torturing the Target. Cause Paralysis and Agony. If skill use is successful, may be immediately used again for free on same Target. This skill extends Bleed Out timers to 10 Minutes the first time it is used. (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 14)

  • Mangle: Causes a targeted limb to become unusable until healed or 30 minutes have passed. (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 14)

  • Raider Ranged Threat Skills: Bow, Bolt-Action, Throwing (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 15)

  • Stealth: Allows for sneaky movement with a specific gesture, becoming unseen as long as efforts to stay hidden are made. (Griffin & Pucci, 2025, p. 16)

Holy shit, so how do we fight them?

I don’t know if you’ve gotten this yet, but Raiders are SCARY. The first thing you can do to prepare for a Raider fight is take them seriously as a threat. These aren’t your momma’s Raiders anymore, and you can’t just run at them head first. With that in mind, we have a few suggestions on how to take on your new favorite enemy.

Don’t Go Alone

Make sure you have friends to help you against a Raider threat. Don’t get caught in the dark alone. Team up and work together. Consider practicing formations and learn each other’s strengths and weaknesses during your downtime.

Make A Plan

No plan survives first contact with the enemy, but having something is better than nothing! Consider the best places to stand and fight, what those around you can do, when to use Impact Skills and/or Mind, and even escape routes. Having a sense of order in the chaos that is a Raider fight can be the line between life and death.

Sometimes You Run

When worse comes to worse, when you're caught unawares and alone, sometimes the best plan is to run and live another day. Whether this is using the Never Here skill, slipping into the Mortis with your dead friend via Necrogenesis, or just booking it-- retreat is always an option.

Conclusion

Feeling nervous yet? Maybe even a little excited? Good, because we’re bringing you Raiders at our June event “Know Thy Enemy.” Grab your weapons, your friends, and maybe some local factions to help. It’s gonna be a bloody Saturday night.

Extra! Extra! Factions are pointing fingers! Title of Mayor may be cursed! Lover’s quarrel in Mercy Pointe! Read all about it in this edition of the Chronicle!

Pointing fingers

Who’s behind the sabotage?

Nobody knows who set the bomb that threatened the May trade on Saturday night, but fingers are being pointed at every faction in town. Some people are blaming the Orchard, others the Gearworkers, even the Craddock Society. Few are choosing to abstain from making allegations, instead causing chaos as the citizens all ask the big question: who wants Mercy Pointe gone?

Brave citizens disarm the bomb.

Mayoral issues

Townsfolk have instated local DJ Smudge as a potential mayor of Mercy Pointe. This goes against the democratic election of the current mayor, Elias Tharen. Unfortunately for both, any accusation of mayoral duties seems to come with a price. Elias was shot and killed last month during the voyage on the Candle’s Flame. This month, Smudge was brutally cannibalized by zombies after a sudden horde attack. Coincidence? Maybe. But we suspect that being deemed “mayor” comes with a curse! Check back next month to see if another “mayor” falls victim.

The recently deceased “Mayor” Smudge exiting the morgue.

Lover’s quarrel

While interviewing new arrivals in Mercy Pointe, I suddenly heard the siren sound of a story in the making. Two ex-lovers in argument, the town split on who was in the right. To my delight, I was able to interview one of the enraged exes, Thorn, and get the full scoop for you!

Thorn is a Diesel Jock who married Rosemary, a Natural One. As Nomads are wont to do, Thorn continued traveling on her bike. Note that her motorbike is also named Rosemary. In a rage, the living, breathing Rosemary shot at and damaged Thorn’s ride, in a bid to get Thorn to stay at the home that Rosemary built for the two of them. Unfortunately the two of them separated due to their disagreements.

When asked why, Thorn feels as though Rosemary does not understand her need to travel, while Rosemary may feel as though Thorn does not understand her want for a quiet home life as a couple. Needless to say, love is a battlefield and Mercy Pointe seems to have become the grounds for this war.

We’ll keep you updated on this flirtatious feud.

With our first in-person game just around the corner, we wanted to send out an update on our 3.0 to Live item exchange. This will only be available to players who have DR:MI as their home chapter.

We are offering an exchange of one (1)  item for one (1) item of a similar type. This could be either a 1:1 item of the same name, or another item of the same card type. Ex: 1 AA Blade (3.0 weapon) can be turned in for either 1 AA Blade (Live weapon) or 1 Moulen Shank (Live weapon). The same process will carry over to Blueprints as well.

However, there are a few restrictions. You may not exchange an item for any necrology item, even if the 1:1 match is now a necrology item in Live. The only way to exchange an item for a Live criminal item, is if the 3.0 item you are turning in is also a criminal item.

Any herbs & meals you have will not need to be exchanged, since they have short expiration dates and have 1:1 matches. Scrap will also not need to be exchanged, and any scrap without an expiration date will be treated as though it is expiring in February 2026.

Any unused 3.0 forage cards will not be accepted and will be treated as expired. Any cards with custom mechanics, plot items, or salvage cards are no longer in use and will not be accepted, but you can keep them as souvenirs.

Below we have a form that we ask you to fill out. This will give you time to pick out what you are exchanging for your items, and it will hopefully expedite the exchange process. Make sure to keep your 3.0 cards when filling out this form, as we will be collecting those 3.0 cards in exchange for the Live cards at our in-person game.

If you do not want to fill out the form, or forget to, and would prefer to do the full exchange in-person, we will have this service offered Friday night for our first few in-person games. However, you will only be able to exchange 5 items before being asked to go to the back of the queue. This is to allow us to make sure everyone is helped in as timely a manner as possible.
