Creepy critters

Who doesn’t love animals? The November Premiere Event will have a slew of different critter-related mods. While many may hope for the cute and cuddly variety of animals, these critters will have a bit more bite to them. On top of that, our critters are being just a tad bit strange. You can find out what that means in game, whether you want to or not!

The Lake Effect

When the Grand Tides area was struck with (and was partially demolished) by the Zed horde labeled “The Lake Effect” back in August, many believed and hoped that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, due to currently unknown reasons, another horde is beginning to form. It is up to the trade-goers to discover the source of this new Lake Effect and put a stop to it.

Mayoral Race

Mercy Pointe needs a new mayor! The election, previously planned for this trade, was pushed back due to the possibility of current mayor Elias Tharen being potentially mentally-altered. Thus, this trade will have Faction Leads showing up into town with the opportunity for the players to convince these NPCs to run for mayor! Who will you back?

New Season

With the story of the Rewritten being wrapped up, now enters the start of a new season! Players attending this Premiere will get hints at what’s to come for the next season. No spoilers, but a lot of what’s to come will be revealed if you know where to look.

Bundle up, because we’re sending you into winter break with a bang!

Get ready for a trade full of allies and enemies!! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Last Word,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

Get ready for a trade full of allies and enemies! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Last Word,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

The Race

The Rewritten have begun a smear campaign across the Grand Tides area, placing Mercy Pointe and its citizens at the center of everything bad that has happened recently. If the players hope to win against the Rewritten, they will need any help that they can get.

The War Effort

With the public fall of a faction comes full out war. As seen with their assassination attempts last month, the gloves are off with the Rewritten. Various settlements have banded together against this insidious group, yet the Rewritten will stop at nothing to see these towns destroyed. Players will have a direct hand in defending Mercy Pointe and the surrounding areas from this growing threat. Along with that, the various faces of Mercy Pointe’s factions may have news about the war front outside of the trade settlement.

The Compound

To finally end the havoc the Rewritten has wrought on the Grand Tides area, the base of operations must be taken down. Players will have an opportunity to travel out of the Mercy Pointe area and be ushered into the Rewritten’s main compound, where the villainous faction will make their final stand. The Compound offers players a type of haunted-house scenario where players get to see the depths of the Rewritten’s plans, their resources, and the leader of the Rewritten themself, Thomas Fletch A.K.A Mr. Fitzgerald.

A Building Threat

You know them, you love them-- the Glowshrooms continue to exist and cause problems. This event will see the continuation of this storyline and a building threat for the future. While we will not give away what is to come, just know that this thread will be followed even stronger this event.

Take up your arms, join your allies, and hope that you get the last word.

September Event Breakdown

Get ready for a trade full of crime and corruption! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Hostile Takeover,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

Get ready for a trade full of hard choices and your favorite-- zombies! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Moral Compass,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

Allies and enemies

The Rewritten have begun a smear campaign across the Grand Tides area, placing Mercy Pointe and its citizens at the center of everything bad that has happened recently. If the players hope to win against the Rewritten, they will need any help that they can get.

Representatives of these different settlements will be around, both as familiar faces and new representatives, to discuss where their settlement stands in relation to Mercy Pointe. Some may need proof of the Rewritten’s involvement within the Chronicle, while some may believe the Drifters and Pointefolk, but be too scared to take up arms. It’s up to the players to bring these towns to their side.

The Chronicle: Special Edition

Secrets don’t make friends, but they do make good headlines. Keep an eye out for a very special edition of The Chronicle at this event, which NPCs will have to sell to those looking for juicy gossip. And remember-- there are no retractions.

Company B

With the fall of Fort Mayfield and the Rewritten sowing chaos around the Grand Tides area, a new faction will enter the playing field-- and they’re coming out swinging! Company B is here to support Mercy Pointe after the Horde, but their support comes with objections from a current faction. Players will have another big choice to make by the end of the event, one that will affect the faction politics of Mercy Pointe and its surrounding areas!

Bounty Board

With scattered criminals come bounties. A new “bounty board” will be created and public to all players to access and interact with. Criminals will be findable a few different ways: some will be able to be “tracked and lured” into town through player interaction, some will be hiding in plain sight on mods, and some may just wander into town. It is up to the players to be diligent and work together to complete these bounties. These will be dangerous and powerful people, preparation is recommended. Don’t worry if you don’t complete them all, these bounties will stay around past September!

So, will you fight for the truth?

Rewritten Clues

Throughout the event, players will get the opportunity to learn secrets both about the Rewritten and hints of when to expect mods where they appear. This can happen in three ways:

  • Module Participation: Participating in select mods will potentially give players information and hints at following encounters within the event.

  • Supply Caches: A couple of lockboxes may be found throughout the property that can contain information on the Rewritten and/or upcoming mods.

    • NOTE: If you like puzzles, ciphers, and/or riddles, this is the thing for you.

  • Intercepted Letters: Some mail may come through town via the mailbox, NPCs, or may be scattered on the property. While some may mean nothing, others may be clues as to what is to come.

Local World Map & Worldbuilding

For players who attended the July event, you may have checked out the War Map that was an important part of Battlement day. It featured a collection of settlement names scattered across a large map. Those settlements weren’t just for show, and are real areas within the county-wide lore of Dystopia Rising: Michigan!

This event will have players learning more about the settlements all around Mercy Pointe and the “Grand Tides” area. On top of this, players have the opportunity to learn more about the factions within Mercy Pointe. Just ask Face NPCs about their organization, and you may get some new information!

The Horde

Who’s a comin? Zeds a comin. The Grand Tides area is being struck by a seemingly endless horde. Expect a high amount of zed threats this game, culminating in a large horde pushing through Mercy Pointe!

Here’s the twist: you get to choose how strong it is.

The Choice

Players will have one major choice coming into this game that can affect not only the event’s storyline, but the season going forward. The choice?

What town will the horde hit?

Players will have to decide where the Horde moves in the Grand Tides area and which settlement will be in its path-- and will have to face the consequences afterwards.

Who will you choose?

July Event Breakdown

Get ready for a trade full of tactics and terror! We’re breaking down what to expect at DR:MI “Battlegrounds,” so any surprises are simply part of the story, and you, the player, are not left in the dark.

Battlement Day

Headed by Hope’s Hand, Battlement Day is a yearly tradition of military tactics, combat medics, and military logistics being practiced and trained within a settlement. The origins for this holiday come from Marigold Flowers deciding to create something joyous for the public that would in turn pull these strains into military training without their awareness. This holiday has members from all walks of life coming into settlements to train in combat maneuvers, skills, and running medic simulations. At the end, once the sun is about to start setting, a large capture the flag event is held.

The Teams

This year, The Orchard has challenged Hope’s Hand to see which faction is truly better when it comes to military prowess. PCs will be split into two even teams, one team supporting The Orchard and the other supporting Hope's Hand. This will be chosen at random, with PCs first split into tiers based on their XP levels, and then randomized to each team. This way, character builds won’t skew numbers to favor a faction. and each side has a fair chance to win the competition. You will know what team you’re on at check-in when you receive a bandana with the coordinating color. Blue is for Hope’s Hand and yellow is for The Orchard!

The Games

A series of games will be held by the various factions of Mercy Pointe. These will range from obstacle courses to water balloon fights, Jones Runs to games of tag. Playing these games will award the winning team with rewards and an Advancement upon the "War Map." Speaking of the “War Map”…

The war map

The War Map is where a team can use their hard-earned Advancements to move units across a specially designed game board. Each team will have 8 units at opposing starting points. The objective? Advance your Soldiers across the board to hold Advancement spaces, which will give your team extra Boons or give the other team extra Banes for the final game of Capture the Flag-- in which the winner takes all! More than one team can be on the same space before the final game of CTF, but only the team with the most Soldiers on the space gets those benefits. So choose your moves carefully!

Capture the flag

Capture the Flag is the final game within the Battlement Day festivities. The two teams will take their prospective flags to the two different sides of the town. The goal? Get the other side's flag down to the dock. As stated previously, based upon what spaces your team claimed upon the War Map, your team will have certain Boons or the opposing team will have a certain Bane. Whichever team wins Capture the Flag is the winner of Battlement Day!

what about the rewritten?

Last event, it was revealed that the saboteurs of the town were a group named the Rewritten. No one knows anything more though, like why they’re attacking the town. And can some war games really be more important than investigating further? Worry not-- you don’t think they’d miss out on some fun and games, do you?

traveling mysteries

There will be a collection of mods that deal with the county area surrounding Mercy Pointe. PCs will get the chance to learn more about the nearby towns and can uncover recent history-- maybe even something about the fallen town of Driftwood Dover.

So, are you ready for war? Grab your ticket for our July event!

June Event Breakdown

Get ready for a trade full of intrigue and bloodbaths! We’re here to break down what to expect for this June event, so any secrets revealed are simply part of the story, and you’re not left in the dark.

Get ready for a trade full of intrigue and bloodbaths! We’re here to break down what to expect for this June event, so any secrets revealed are simply part of the story, and you’re not left in the dark.

Whodunnit?

Last month someone was sabotaging Mercy Pointe with diseases and mayhem, all leading up to a dangerous bomb defusal that left the townsfolk asking “who did this?” Factions are pointing fingers at each other, and it’ll be up to you to suss out who’s really behind the madness.

We want you to get to know each faction. Each faction will have a secret that players can reveal through mods. These secrets may prove a group innocent of these crimes, but guilty of others. Work together to cross suspects off your list and find clues to who really is behind the town terror.

Raider Sightings

Raiders have become a problem over the last month. Some think it’s due to the sudden influx of Lineages living in Mercy Pointe, but others suspect last month’s villain leading them here. They have been attacking the outskirts of town, resulting in loss of resources and even death. The local factions have been too distracted with accusations to organize any defense. Expect Raiders to be a present threat this month, culminating in a final onslaught. Which brings us to…

A Fractured Community

Not only will you want to find out who is behind the chaos, but you’ll want to convince those factions who aren’t to work together and rally against the Raider threat! Each faction will have a condition to be reached by PCs that will get them to assist in the final battle, such as providing resources like brews or by mechanically lowering the ranks of all Raider threats. Some NPCs may even join the fight!

In the end, PCs can decide whether to fulfill the factions’ conditions, use political intrigue (aka blackmail) with the uncovered faction secrets, or simply raw dog the finale mod.

So, are you ready to puzzle the pieces together? Grab your ticket for our June event!

The Ides of March: To the Victors Go the Spoils

The Ides of March

The Ides of March is a long-standing Pureblood tradition of playing a game of bloody political chess. The leaders of Pureblood-led communities host a series of deadly competition ‘Games’ that anyone can enter to win a key that unlocks three potential prizes. This ‘holiday’ of sorts presents an opportunity to shape the political landscape of the Lakesea in the coming year, and has traditionally been held as a time for negotiation, contracts, settling debts… and revenge.

The Winning Ticket

Upon winning any of the Ides Games, all victors will be granted a Black and Gold Card. This Card may be traded to another player or NPC, bought or sold. BGCs can be stolen or looted from you, so keep them safe if you have one!

Only one BGC can be turned in per player. If you win multiple Games and end up with multiple BGCs, you may wish to sell or trade your extras, or work with allies to hand in BGCs strategically to accomplish your goals - or use them to hamper your political enemies!

To use a BGC, hand it to the leader of your chosen faction and declare which of the three options you want it used for. You can do this via mail or in person, from Saturday 8AM to Game Off Sunday.

  • Faction leaders cannot reject being presented with a BGC, but they can negotiate regarding the specific terms and applications of what you ask for them to do.

  • Remember: Face NPCs are living people in this world just like you are, with their own secrets, goals, motivations, and feelings. These negotiations will vary in scope by your pre-existing relationship with these NPCs.

  • If the Faction Leader is physically unable to accomplish or fulfill what they ask you to do, they can refuse your request and point you to another Face NPC who may be able to help you. Your BGC will not be expended if this happens.

  • Faction Leaders can set a price for the Favor you request from them, freely. For example, One BGC may be sufficient to ask the Fords for 200 Overs, but if you ask the Fords to eliminate a town law as your Favour, they have the right to request up to 10 BGCs to accomplish that goal.

  • BGCs cannot be used to request any character commit suicidal or genocidal actions.

Overall, the Storytelling team will be working with you to realize your character’s goals and wants! We might have to adjust things to fit, but we would love for you to be creative here and see what you can accomplish. If you have any questions, please contact the Story Director!

What You Can Win

Gain Favor

A favor is essentially a carte blanche for ‘anything you want’ from any Mourning Glory faction. You may simply ask for large sums of money or big-ticket items. You may ask for a monthly shipment of a resource you need. You may ask for financial support of a project. You may ask for a Faction to take political action against another. You may ask for a higher rank or position within a faction. You can ask for a record to be deleted or a historical record to be expunged. The possibilities are endless - hence why the Ides of March is so important to setting up the political landscape of Mourning Glory for the next year.

You may not gain Favor on behalf of someone else, but multiple people can combine BGCs to ask for a larger Favor. Ask the Faction Leaders for their prices.

Examples:

  • Ask for classified information, documents or secrets. Factions must provide you with truthful information!

  • Ask for a cause or project of yours to be backed by a particular faction fiscally or politically.

  • Ask for monetary rewards of any kind. You may choose to, for example, turn in (item) to receive a series of augmented Master Weapons from the Bullet Bag Brothers, or financial payouts from Ford Industries. Whatever you can imagine, will be provided. (Note: Please be realistic and keep in mind everyone’s fun - we don’t have the physical resources to grant you a million Overs, for example.)

  • Ask for changes to Town Laws, or the creation of a new role in town.

Clear Debt

If you are in debt to any faction in Mourning Glory or the Greater Lakesea, a BGC can be used to clear that debt. Present the holder of your debt with a BGC, and they will be legally bound to cancel your debt. This debt does not have to be monetary in value. It can be a debt of Infection, allegiance, employment, and so on.
You may clear debt on behalf of someone else.

Examples:

  • Many people seem to owe SaintCorp an Infection for some of their restorative services…

  • Plenty of local small businesses and individuals find themselves in debt to the Ford Family, and will be looking for competitors to help them clear this debt so they don’t go under.

  • Some folks may have slighted a faction or cost them supplies. They may be looking for a way to call their attack dogs off.

  • There are workers in the Mines, they say, who are still working off a debt their parents incurred before them. Injured or sick Miners might be looking for a way out of their contracts so they can recuperate.

Criminal Purposes

The Ides of March tends to attract the less than savory types in Mourning Glory who might be looking to expunge a record of past actions. A BGC can be used to clear your criminal record, so whatever Faction you have gotten in some hot water with over the past year will have to clear your slate with them and hold no bad blood… till you mess up again, of course.

A BGC can also be used to further your criminal goals in creative ways. You may trade in BGCs to request hitmen and targeted killings. Be aware that if this is levied against a fellow Player Character, you will be opting into CvC - always be aware of your limits and what you’re willing to risk.

You may clear a criminal record on behalf of someone else.

Examples:

  • Been convicted of a crime? Arrested by the Neighbourly Association? Perhaps more than once, even? Well, all you have to do is turn in one (item) and every misdeed of the past year will be expunged. NPC groups will act as if you have never done anything wrong in their eyes, so you have a chance to start fresh.

  • Currently on trial or in prison? Win a game, turn in a (item) and you’re a free man.

  • Deal in illegal weapons or drugs? Win a game, turn in a (item), and maybe you can convince the Neighbourly Association to simply not look at your trade routes in the coming year.

  • Are you one of those nasty little Crystal Candy dealers? Maybe you need your covert operation of turning in Aberrants to get a little easier with some help from a Faction…

What Happened Last Time: October 2022 Event Recap

The residents and travelers of Mourning Glory returned for the October trade, only to find the town overrun by Nemeses. From horrifying clowns to killer slashers, the townsfolk had more than enough to deal with. But Rogue’s Gallery didn’t think so, and re-introduced their Death Games. The prizes were items important to the town’s local factions, and thus were very valuable to the right people. Rogue’s Gallery was “kind” though, and gave each participant a ticket that could be exchanged for clues, help, or even a life.

Friday night started off with a mystery- the kidnapping of Vic Ford! After leading blue bands into town, Vic and Mustang Ford were ambushed on the way home. Vic was Kidnapped, and Mustang led folks out to a Plot Hole- the entrance to a tunnel system used by Rogue’s Gallery. Unfortunately, exploring the tunnels proved too difficult, and the town had to retreat to think of another way to save Vic.

Later there were sightings of some creepy zed- Mannequins. Headless and silent, they only moved when their target looked away. Luckily folks were able to fend them off, but they persisted through the weekend. Then the first Death Games occurred- leading to violent deaths. More explosive deaths were threatened by the emergence of the Bomb Collar, a device created by Rogue Prime himself. The collar could be set off by Nemesi with a detonator, or as some found, by pulling their own collar’s chain.

During Friday night, the locals held a Graverobber meeting to discuss the urgency of the Dead Zones, during which they met Cancer and Canaan, representatives from the Zodiac Collective and the Arbiters of Aeternum respectively.

Saturday the local Darwinists established a radiation sink as a place to dispose of Dominion irradiated material, and doubled as their place of the local Darwin’s place of worship. The Nemesis games ran on, leading to death after death. Some in the town agreed to play along, while others wanted to fight back. A clue about a final confrontation was given, and the town quickly started preparations for this last deadly game.

Meanwhile, a man came into town begging for help. He claimed to have been on the run from a strange horde of zed for days, and was afflicted by a peculiar condition that caused him to drip and vomit black ichor. Unfortunately, when he was brought in for treatment, he suddenly turned into a zed that, while not strong, was extremely difficult to permanently put down. Other similarly affected victims and zed continued to appear and present dangers to the town.

After many games and Nemesis attacks, finally, the Rogue’s Gallery showdown occurred. The town met the group of anarchists on the edge of town, where they gave them a simple choice: unarm the detonators that would set off all the bomb collars, or fight the entire Rogue’s Gallery to save Vic Ford. The town quickly went to work disarming the detonators, but a few came back to bargain with Rogue Prime for Vic’s life. By turning in 10 tickets, the townsfolk was able to save their capitalist friend while sparing the life of those collared. The town was once again peaceful- or as much as a wasteland town could be.

Sunday ruined this peacefulness with the discovery that Daisy the bear was still being attacked viciously by an unknown menace. Said menace was sighted for the first time off in the woods- a creature with many eyes and glowing green claws. The town aims to hunt the creature so Daisy can finally hibernate in peace for the winter.

Now that the Nemeses are gone, what will winter bring?

What Happened Last Time: August 2022 Event Recap

After ousting the Dominion in June and blowing up the Observatory-- and thus the local morgue-- the townsfolk of Mourning Glory returned to rebuild the town. The trade started off with a bang when the Dominion showed up to intimidate and harass the settlement, claiming it was still their territory. Locals and travelers alike banded together to chase them off, and so started the weekend.

The main focus of the trade was to find Morgue Materials for a successful Morgue Sink- a process that creates a new Morgue, so those who’ve died have somewhere to return after being processed through the Mortis Amaranthine. Various obstacles stood in the way, including an epic ride fight against Raiders, an irradiated lab full of Glow Boys, multiple attacks by the Dominion with a recently “evolved” General Boscogn, and a surgery on a Doom Fog that attracted hordes of irradiated dead. Other notable encounters included St. Mary’s offering a suspicious life insurance, a “fun” Saturday Morning Cartoons hosted by a local Rogue’s Gallery face, many mine runs (sponsored by the Fords of course), and a brave contingent saving an endangered Cult of the Silent member from terrifying Echoes.

This all led up to the moment everyone was preparing for: the Morgue Sink. After choosing a new psionic user, a biogenetics user, a faithful psionics user, and a necrokinetics user, the town ventured into the mines to create a new space for the Gravemind. It was a long and hard fight, with many obstacles in the way. Artisans had to build, salvagers and foragers had to find materials, and four psionic users had to combine their strength to finish the job. All of this while hordes of zed attacked relentlessly, maiming some and unfortunately killing others. The Morgue was remade though, and with it a miraculous Unborn was created. The town once more has a place for the dead to return from, and possibly a new messiah of the local Cult of the Silent. Now the question is: who will be sent to the morgue next?
